I'm going to purchase a new video card this weekend and I want to spend about $200, 10 or 20 bucks more is ok but I'd rather keep it under the $200 mark. Ofcourse I want to get the best card I can get for my money, previously I had decided on an ATI 9600XT 128mb card. I'm not going to hook it up to my TV or watch any DVD's on my computer, so this is strictly for gaming.

I've recently seen on newegg.com that some GeForce FX 5900's are now in the $200 range. I haven't read up on any reviews recently but from what I've seen ATI usually does better, although not by much. So what do you guys think I should do or what would you do?

I want to get something with DirectX9 built in so I (hopefully) won't have to upgrade until I get my next system. I was really trying to decide whether to get an ATI 9600 with 256 of RAM OR if a GeForce FX5900 would give me better graphics. Is 256 of RAM going to be an issue in the next year or two...or is 128 plenty?

in a video card 128 should be fine, i dont see the big deal right now to have more. you might try that albatron i have on that link in my last post, its a very good card.

Timbo all my research from a few months ago pointed to an ATI 9600XT 128mb card. I was just wondering if the Geforce FX 5900 was a better buy, since they are both about the same price. I'm going to research it a little tonight prolly I just wanted your guys opinions.

Yeah, I could use a better video card. The one that I wanted was a 100$ tho, and 15$ a week will take a little bit :)

*Runs off a 32 MB tnt2 model 64 card :)*

I bought an ATI 9600XT for $174 at mwave.com, so I'll tell you how much better it is over my present card, GeForce2 MX200 32mb PCI card, in a few days. Thanks for your guys input.

I run an ATI 9600Pro 128MB card and it runs fine. 100 FPS on CS and it can handle every game I have at the highest details.

Yeah it's basically the same card CajunTech, slight improvements but only like 2 or 3 fps more for games. I figured this will get me through all the games for the next year or two, and when I build my next computer I can upgrade my video too.
