View Full Version : Just a reminder to be careful...

Well, until last night, I didn't realize that since I built my new system, and reloaded windows, that I had neglected to load an Anti-Virus program :-( got an email from a friend - one who often sends attachments, so I opened it, and 18 gigs of MP3's, a gig of pictures, and 400 megs of MIDI files were lost - and the MIDI files hurt worse than anything - that was over 250,000 files :-(

I just went ahead and formatted...wasn't worth trying to fix, as the NAV repair tool for the Love letter virus said it was unable to repair any of the files when I ran it. So, it'll take me a couple of days to get up and running I guess - bighead has my CS CD and he's out of town all week, so unless I can scrounge one up from someone else, I'm going to take a break from CS for a while - I kinda needed a week off from it anyway. Anyway, just came home for lunch and finished up loading XP, so I'm back in business for web and email...tonight I guess I'll start loading back up programs and such.

Just remember to be careful with attachments.

Thanks, but I've been there, they don't have dooty for it. It sux cuz it's in their definitions, but it can't delete or quarantine the virus.

Did you try going into safe mode and running a scan? That sometimes helps.

Is there a difference with safe mode?
When I ran the scan fully loaded, it picks up the virus but you can't do anything with it.

If the file is being used, running in safe mode MAY allow you to remove it.
