It is called the Athlon64 ---due out in September I think -- it will have Hyperthreading, only one 6.4Gb/sec data pipe, where their new Server 64bit chip, the Opteron will have 3 Hyperthreading pipes.

Yep Opteron is going to be awesome. It has the full 32 bit instruction code built in. So it will be fully backwards compliant.
The Itanium (intels 64 bit processor) is nowhere near ready was NOT going to be backwards compatible. Intel is scrambling now to create backwards compatability through software conversion.
Intel's target range for pricing is hundreds of dollars more for the same speed chip. Not looking really good for intel in the 64 bit market right now.
