I dont know who started it or when... but I do know that a guy named Ira Gershwin claimed for a long time that he smelled burning feathers. Like all the time. Turns out it was because of a brain tumor... I guess for whatever reason, the tumor affected the part of his brain responsible for smell. Anyway, the whole burning feathers/brain tumor thing has been mentioned in a few books, movies, etc. Mostly as a joke. Make sense?

Ira Gershwin was George Gershwin's brother - they were a songwriting team - Geroge wrote the music and Ira wrote the lyrics...

I think it is sad, and really shows the quality of public education in the USA when a grown man has to ask who an important musical figure like Ira Gershwin is...It's not your faught, it is whoever taught you music in grade school - they should have pushed great american composers like Gershwin, Copland, Bernstien down your throat like no tomorrow...
