hey speaking of that i used to ping around 80-90 now my ping has jumped up to around 120-140 what gives?

well from what i have been able to find out, bellsouth adsl subscribers are being re-routed. they are implementing some new equipment is what they are saying. this started being done in december and affects the southern states only.

Snakebite, I'm not sure what new equipment they are talking about, but the extra time required to go to Atlanta, etc. is not really noticeable to you. The problem with the ping is the server, everyone has been pinging high lately, it's not an ADSL problem.

Yeah - I'm on cable in SC and my ping has gone up lately as well, do I doubt that the problem is with your DSL service or with Bellsouth...

Dirge, question. I'm getting fed up w/ time warner in that they basically all around suck as far as service is concerned...I moved recently and they were supposed to run all new lines in the house, but apparently didn't 'cause my connection now sucks compared to the old place...well not all the time, just some times. Occasionally it will give me an IP but the signal is so weak even google will time out trying to load, but by the time they can get a tech out here the problem has cleared up and they say that they can't fix it unless they can catch the problem while it is happening...my question is, with BellSouth DSL, and the modem, I know that they (at least in my area) are offering a free modem (w/ rebates, of course) what I want to know is do I have to have $100 for the modem when they come to connect me or do they add stuff like that into my phone bill, especially if I get the DIY kit. I've installed some DSL for customers of where I use to work and I really like the system. It just seems more stable if maybe a little bit slower in some bandwidth tests. Also does it network just like roadrunner, in that I hook the modem into my linksys router and my pc's to the router just like i'm doing now?

TIA for any info...

Laters...

Usually with the rebate, it comes about the same time as the bill. If not, then it shows as a credit to your phone bill. If you order it, ask them at the time and they can tell you. And yes, it networks like your cable. Just plug it into your router and rock and roll.

That's cause while yor at work you have your feet propped up on the server and your 7-11 Big Gulp sitting in the CD tray. We all can't work at the isp we play on.:p
