So I've been giving some thought to mixing things up. For those that aren't familiar, I've been living in North Carolina since 2002, I have my BA in History(no desire to teach), and I've been working in retail management for the last 2 years. I make a decent salary, but I've been thinking about moving back to the Gulf Coast. I applied for a position in Lafayette, but I'll be honest, I'm not too thrilled about that area. How are things generally in the state?

I would say that the economy in Baton Rouge area is doing better than other parts of the country. There have been a couple big plant expansions and IBM is coming into the downtown area. All in all, I would say that things are looking up (as long as the oil industry keeps moving forward).

I agree with Doc. Things around the New Orleans metro area are pretty good. A lot of businesses opening up here on the Northshore (i.e. Mandeville, Covington etc). The same in Metairie. A lot of food and retail businesses specifically.
