Its that time again. New version of 3dmark just came out today. (a 3d benchmarking program)

So start downloading, post your system specs, and what you scored!

3DMark_11_v100_installer.exe (http://64.91.80.238/downloads/3DMark_11_v100_installer.exe) 282mb

fyi, if you havent messed with 3dmark before, it will bring your system to its knees. I'm getting ready for the slideshow!

A little preview of one of the tests:

I think it's because you have too many video cards. Maybe you should just give me that machine and try building another one until it gives you a result. :xmas1

Okay, I reloaded my graphics drivers with the latest version, and ran 3dmark 11 again, this time it at least let me save to the internet, but it is still showing only one card instead of 3 with SLI turned off??? Not sure what the problem is, the score was roughly the same 4266.

Havent tried it lately, but the last two times I tried, it was misreporting my graphics specs and saying something or the other about my driver. I noticed it turns off SLI for some reason, so I am not sure what the deal is. I am going to redo it after I get my hdd's installed, maybe by then it will recognize my graphics correctly.

Okay, 3DMark11 blows.....best way to say it. I revamped my system and still only get 4260 marks, whenever I run it, it turns SLI off and still gives me the goofy driver error. Here is what I have now:
ASUS Rampage 3 Extreme MoBo
Core i7 980x Extreme (12 cores)
24 g Kingston HyperX Ram
2 Crucial c300 60g SSD's - Raid 0 (OS)
1 WD Velociraptor 320g (Data)

Everything is set to stock, no OC'd components at all. I give up on 3Dmark....

OK, I finally got my new Graphics card installed and ran 3dmark 11, and I must say I am pleasantly surprised with the results,
I figured I would come in way low based on my platform.
Basically Im running a E6600 dual core OC'ed to 3 Ghz. with 4 gb of 800 Mhz corsair XMS Ram with a 470 GTX GPU.

So anyway here the results :)

OK, I installed my EVGA 8800 GTS as the Physx card and ran the test again to see if my score would improve much,

http://3dmark.com/3dm11/517329

From 3209 to 3218.. is sadly almost not worth mentioning:(
(However there does seem to be a little problem)

2nd test reported Core clock speed at 513
1st test reported Core clock speed 607
and the Memory clock at 792 V/S 1674

I'm wondering if my 470 is running under clock?

LA_MERC_MadMAX
January 26th, 2011, 05:43 PM
Hey Parker - in regards to your clock speed, I'm wondering if the card has some Power Management clock throttling going on...my 9800GT did - it would slow down when not under load to save on heat/power, and throttle up when hit - kinda like SpeedStep or Cool and Quiet in CPU's.

Just a thought.

LA_MERC_YellowDog
January 31st, 2011, 08:21 AM
You know I've been thinking about that, however wouldn't you think 3d mark 11 would put the card under a load that require it ramp up to its highest clock speed, I mean it did when I was running the 470 by itself? I doubt the 8800 would take that much of a load off the 470 that it wouldn't need to run at Full Throttle.

I'm suspecting the MoBo has the 470 under clocked because of the 8800's clock speed.

either that or 3d mark 11 is not reporting the cards speed correctly?

LA_MERC_th33_r00k
January 31st, 2011, 09:39 AM
I vote the latter Yellow.

LA_MERC_YellowDog
January 31st, 2011, 11:06 AM
I am leaning that way, in Nvidia control panel it shows both cards with their respective Clock speeds, also in CPUID they list correctly. Its probably a issue with 3Dmarks reporting.

LA_MERC_YellowDog
March 23rd, 2011, 06:31 AM
Well, you are correct on your first point...

However I dont know about the second, I'm not sure what AMD is doing now in the performance end of things.

As far as mine goes, I picked up my score in the graphics area somewhat but my major gain was in the processing. Going from DDR2 to DDR3, Dual channel V/S Triple Channel, An 800Mhz FSB dual core V/S 1333Mhz FSB Quad with Hyper-threading, not to mention MOBO to tie it all together. My previous platform was starting to get a little outdated.

LA_MERC_Blown68Kamaro
March 23rd, 2011, 10:32 AM
My understanding is that the 6 core AMD converts itself from a 6 core to a turbo charged 3 core when under a heavy load. For example, if it is running 6 core at 2 ghz, it converts itself to a 4 ghz tripple core. It also now has 6/mbps data xfers on hdd speed.
I'm hoping that is a huge improvement over what I have now. Also it has a hugh processor cache. I guess we will see in a few weeks. AMD boast that is out performes Intel's stuff. But like I siad we'll see. :)

The best I can get messing with "AI tweaker" preset performance options in my ASUS X58 motherboard bios.

XMP mode = extreme memory profile.

http://3dmark.com/3dm11/1012023

Where I started

http://3dmark.com/3dm11/882653

I also tried CPU step up 1 i7 975 (3.3 mhz)

http://3dmark.com/3dm11/1011946

CPU step up 2 crazy (3.7 ghz) <---- lol, really??

http://3dmark.com/3dm11/1012066

I'm not going to mess with (real) over clocking since I don't really know what I'm doing in this area and i'm not about to mess up my new setup.

To summarize it appears to me you can get better results in 3Dmark11 by tweaking the memory V/S CPU over clocking.

But then again, the difference in performance is negligible at best by only gaining 63 points total. Other than just saying you have a higher score I doubt your going to notice any real performance gain gaming or otherwise.

Yellowdog signing off!! :)

P.S. I decided to run at the 3.3 GHz i7-975 settings, I figured it was a safe bet with a stock CPU cooler, and this setting does bump my memory up to 1600 Mhz which is where its rated to run at. :)

Best score, prior to MoBo Processor and Memory upgrade "using an 8800 Gts physx card"

Best score as listed above with New MoBo Processor and memory "No 8800 Gts physx card"

Awesome man - the 280 is working out well for me. I've got it paired up w/ a AMD 965. I messed around w/ overclocking, but wound up going back to stock so I could use "Cool'n'Quiet" to let it clock down when idle so it isn't sucking up so much juice, and I could limit myself to just the 2 stock fans in the Antec 300 to keep noise down since I record music sometimes. I could tell a diff w/ benchmarks, but not much of a difference in gameplay. I fire up CS and UT3 some, but mostly play a racing game called Grid right now.

BTW, I think 3dmark11 is having some compatibility issues. I had issues with it displaying the right clock speeds when I had a physX card installed. I know tugboat had problems with running SLI with Nvidia 470 cards..

Yeah, I can't get your links or my links to come up today. I guess thier website is down.
Overall I played Dirt2 and Left4Dead2, and BF2BC with not jitter or shaky or lag problems and had them all on high resolution. What is funny is my new laptop Windows index is 5.8 and my desktop is 5.9. LOL. CPU score is 7.3 on the desktop and 7.1 on the laptop.
The low score on my laptop is Windows Areo of 5.8, followed by the ram at 5.9. So overall the laptop does what I need it to do. Play my games. :) And oh yeah do work related stuff quickly. The only complaint I have about this laptop is the HDD activity light is BEHIND the lid. So when the screen is up where you can see the screen you can't see the light on the laptop. LOL. I give this laptop a 4.75 out of a 5. For 900.00 it is a steal. The surround sound on it is awesome.
