Bush must have been offered one hell of a retirement plan by big business to get this thing revived.

The joys of doing what you want rather than what the people that elected you want. So much for a representative democracy.

Can't we just put a stake in this beast and put it out of its misery? Although I see it more of a bipartisan FrankenBill.

Good Lord. I'll be a Republican as long as we have bipartisanship but I'm big enough to admit we made a mistake electing this yahoo. Not to say we had much of a choice with Kerry (You know, the whole lesser of two evil thing) but SOB this guy is a door mat. C'mon Bush, act like a man in your final hour.

Yes, I know my phone works. but calling the office of my representative is a waste of time. they pay much more attention to active lobbyist (preferrably with gifts, incentives, or favor trading), and party lines. If their party is telling them to vote a certain way, they won't risk loosing party backing at next election and to get some of their own agenda approved just because one of their constiuants said they didn't like it.

Calling your Senator or Representative does help if you can get enough people to do it. One person here or there doesn't do it, but if it is perceived that there is a groundswell then it will sway them. Vitter is fighting against it, but Landrieu is currently going with the bill. She has shown in the past (judge appointments), that she is willing to change a vote if enough people revolt. She is also in danger of losing the next election due to changing demographics in N.O. By default, you can expect them to go with the party (unless they are catering to their own area... which they should).

It was interesting to see Trent Lott and other Republicans leaders blast "conservative" talk radio. You would think they would like the Rushs and Hannitys of the radio. The reason they were ticked off at them was because they motivated people to call about the immigration bill. From that I would guess that it had an effect on the "rank and file" politicians. They are feeling the heat. Looks like the "leaders" of the parties got a better choke hold on them this time. If we get mad enough, they'll listen.

So how about the real news of the day.... Paris Hilton was released. :slap

Updated: Looks (http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=110&session=1&vote=00228#name) like Landrieu voted against cloture... same as Vitter. It seems like the La. senators are on track.

"party lines".....is that were the senators line up the hookers in their suite and decide which one to snort coke off?

Oh....you meant Republican and Democrat. Ok....I got it now.

And it continues. They break the law again and now want to sue the City. Not only that, but they have people backing them... sheesh

The workers, all from Veracruz, Mexico, said they paid a recruiter between $1,500 and $2,000 to come to the U.S., expecting to make $16.50 an hour. Instead, they said Southwest Shipyards paid them $14 an hour, of which they only kept $12 an hour after transportation and living expenses were deducted.

Welcome to America stupid...
I Get get paid X amount of dollars to do a job, but before I get it.. about 30 - 35 % of it is missing...
and I still have to pay for my room a board.....

Sounds to me like they had a good deal... I think I'll go to work there. I might be able to save up some.
Gosh if I could trade 2 dollars an hour for free room a board... Not to shabby :)
