this noob needs a bit of help. do any of you know of a 'server' or harddrive that can be shared from 4-6 different computers? Something that can be set up within a conference room, so it would have to be a bit portable. I'm sure this exists...just not sure where to find it and how much.

Basically, we have several people working on the same project and we need to share the same reference files...and update them accordingly. We are located at a client's office and do not want to use their system to store our data..

any ideas?

Share a folder on one of your workstation hard drives. If you only have a few people accessing the share, it shouldn't cause a problem. Just remember to leave that workstation running all the time.

Toby's recommendation is the best. If you need to store it on a seperate device, there are plenty of network attached storage (NAS) devices available for a reasonable price.

How about a USB HD with a multi port?
