Latency spike and Steam error.

I have been getting this error as of late and it is very annoying.

SteamMountAppFilessystem(10,0,0x163dfd74) failed with error 1: The registry is in use by another process, timeout expired.

This will not allow me to get on. If I restart the comp then I can log on, but I also have errant latency spikes that are concerning to me. 88....98....102......3196....1785......88....and so on for the entire time.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well, im no techy person, but it sounds like either a conflict with other software, or maybe you need to reinstall Steam. im not saying you should reinstall, but thats the esiest thing to do.

I just need to backup my steam info than reinstall or wipe clean and reinstall?

I am going to concentrate on this tonight. I am cleaning up the comp and defragmenting tonight. I have been neglecting it very much lately, and spent this last weekend fixing a friends comp which was having issues. I cleaned 400+ "issues" off it on Saturday. I am going back this week with a-squared to clean the registry a little better. She has dial up so downloading is like beating yourself with a cheese grater.

Have you checked on steampowered forums for a fix? That is where I find most fixes for CS.

I played last week for about 15 minutes or so and I had to quit because the lagging was so bad....I didn't get any errors...just lag.

Hey Noot...yes I did. I actually had to post a question about it since the error message didn't bring any answers up. I will be back.

Update: No answer to my question yet. I will keep trying.
