Well first off we have to decide if ram or memory is important or not. <--- Just a little dig.

You first off will need to decide just what your budget is then from there we can make some suggestions to help you.

Do you need a new friend?

2-3K means you can have 2 video cards from the gate but Sabre's question is a good one and also probably the last we need to ask.

Alright I need some of the supa nubs to help me out because I haven't been keeping up on the newest stuff and when it's coming out.

I'm pretty sure that AMD is coming out with the AM2 in the near future but I don't know anything about it. Basically your options are to wait until that stuff comes out and A) get that, B)buy the old stuff because now it's cheaper, C) buy now and to hell with the newest stuff. Kinda depends on how long it will be for the newest stuff to come out and how long you want to wait.

i can wait a month or two or so if the new stuff is worth it...is it worth it?

Your bang for the buck ratio would be better if you waited until the new stuff came out and then bought the old stuff (as long as you had a mobo/ram etc that would allow you to upgrade later on for cheap).

That's usually what I end up doing...wait unti the NEW THING is out, and then I buy the lower priced old (but still fairly new) thing.

You know you can trim the fat off that computer setup that Heater linked to,
and you would be close to 3K, still a high price for a computer, but one can dream.

For ex. they have 3 hard drives in the added, take it down to 1, and no CD roms.. use your old ones.

I got Heater's link down to $2600 pretty easily with some upgrades and down grades, and with a little tweaking you can get to your $2500 number. One quick theory would be to only go with 1 video card now and pick up a second in the future.

From what i read about the AM2 is that it's a different socket that allows AMD to use DDR2 and that's about it. So pick out a case you like because that's about the only choice we're leaving to you. ;)

Aight this is what I have

Basic stuff

Power Supply $75.45 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103937

Mother Board $153.66 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131013

RAM $209.98-not including a $40 mail-in rebate http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227118

Hard Drive $175.45-not including $30 mail-in rebate http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822136033

DVD Burner $33.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827106014

Total - $648.53 (includes shipping) You would also need to pick a case you like to add to the basic price.

Options - this is where the real money comes into play and we have some wiggle room.

Sound Card $121.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16829102188

Video Card $551.66 x 2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814125035

Processor $358.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103747

Total $1584.20

Grand Total $2232.73 all shipping included but not any mail-in rebates.

The sound card you don't techinically need since your mother board has onboard sound but a seperate sound card is much better.
The video cards I have picked out are the top of the line and will give you 2Gb of video RAM which is sickening. You could drop to the Nvidia 7900GTX's with 512Mb RAM each and have the same setup as Diesel, Spark, and Andy for $200 less. Or you could just get 1 of the Nvidia 7950GX2's with 1Gb of RAM and skip the second one all together for $551.66 less. I haven't read any reviews on the newest 7950GX2's so I don't know how much if any better they are.
Also if you axe one of the video cards now you can upgrade to get the 4600 for $226.01 more.

I'd like some other more up to date computer geeks to critique my choices so we can get Biggs the best setup.

good setup, now I think Biggs is more the type to have everything built for him.
so maybe the cyber power rig is the way to go.
But for the parts that is a great selection IMHO Ex

Biggs

yea build it for me

LA_MERC_Dirge
July 6th, 2006, 01:54 PM
yeah , build it for him, but make it to where he can't fly a jet...

Every time a joystick is connected the comp crashes.....hahahhahahahaahahahahahaa

LA_MERC_eX1|eS' ch1|d
July 6th, 2006, 02:07 PM
Way too easy r00k, we'll add a randomizer program so when he pushes any button on his joystick random actions occur. Namely ejecting out of the jet, suicide, crash to desktop, you get the idea.

I would pay a dollar to be a fly on Biggs wall if someone did that to him.

Your motherboard can handle 4Gb of RAM.

You can get whatever you want, your paying after all.
