You know...I'm inclined to agree with you. That's just not right.

I need more info before I pass judgement on this one. I was hanging in there till I heard the "house smelled of urine" line. The "dresser in front of the door" is a definate no no too. Stuff like were there matresses or blankets in the cages and what do the kids think about it are questions I would want to know the answers too. Also did any of the kids have violent tendencies. They never should have been given that many kids to begin with so SOMETHING failed somewhere.

CNN & a local station had more info on this. The parents say that they were following a psychiatrist's advice to cage the children; the children all have some sort of either physical and/or mental disabilities (including, but not limited to, autism). There were no blankets, pillows, or otherwise in the cages from the news report. Neighbors said the kids were homeschooled and "kept to themselves". {Here's your sign, I'd say.} Yeah, I'm sure they kept to themselves, alright. Not by their choice, it seemed. I'd be interested in seeing if that psychiatrist that allegedly advised the parents to cage the children backs up their story........anyone taking bets on that one???

Well I have done some contracted security work in a local publicly funded home for mentaly chalenged children/teenagers/and Adults.

You would be suprized at how people in these places are treated and handled day to day. Putting some of the vilolent kids... AND I MEAN VIOLENT KIDS,,,, Like the kind that will RIP their own teeth out of their OWN HEAD... In a cage would not be hard to belive... From the people that I have seen.

I also had a friend that worked with some severly violent mentally ill children that had to be "locked down" in a room that was not much bigger than a cage to keep them from harming others at night. To me a cage is a cage is a cage. The news is the most reliable not biased towards the worst case scenario source I have ever watched or read. Remember what you all just went through. The relief efforts that were insufficient even though the volunteers were being shot when trying to help...................need I say more. There was a specialty vet clinic that was in NOLA. The specialist that works with sLingbLade and I knew him. He had to watch the "victims" of Katrina loot all of his equipment on the news. I kinda agree with Cowboy_from_hell on this one.

I'm not going to be quick to judge on this one....there may be more to the story. Like others have mentioned, the cages could have been due to severe violence and fear of the other children's safety. But it does seem to be a very wrong situation....hopefully it is not as bad as it seems....and that head shrink should have his brain checked for not stepping in on these parents as it is obvious they are over their heads with responsibility.

I read the parents are being "charged"..........with what? I have no idea; they didn't report on the specific charges. Guess I'll just keep watching the news for more info. I don't mind jumping to conclusions on things ... my instincts are usually right. :p:
