avi to mpeg

i am trying to watch the avi movies my camara makes on my pocket pc and iam looking for freeware that will convert my avis into mpeg .i got this programm called Tmpeg,i use it to make mpegs in the right format for p pc and it is supposed to convert avi's as well,but it doesn't work .i could also use a programm that makes mpegs from other formats like divx .

tmpgenc works fine for avi, try just dragging and dropping the .avi file into the tmpgenc window while its open, that works for me.
if that doesnt work, then its most likely you dont have the proper codec loaded.

Ya, Tmpgenc works for me, but if it doesn't, you can try VDubMod.

yeah thats the product i was talking about ,but i don't see anywhere where you can drag and drop anything ?
also i think it must be the codec ,but how in the world do i change/add it ? i am really nubbish when it comes down to stuff like that .

Ok here is a step by step:

1. Start up TMPGENC, and click cancel on the wizard

2. On your pc, browse out to where you have the avi file and drag it to the tmpgenc window.

3. You can see that the vid is now loaded in tmpgenc and ready for encoding

If for some reason the vid will not load, like it said its a codec issue. I would suggest getting the ace mega codec pack. It has every codec you'll ever need:

http://www.divx-digest.com/software/acemega_codec.html

Just install that, and try the steps above again.
