I just got DSL today so I can actually play some of the better games with you guys again. I think I'm the Last of the Dialupers.

Currently I'm downloading CS: Source at 1MB/sec, talk about freaky. Took me like 2 weeks of all night downloads to get it last time.

How do I check my upload and download speeds? DSLreports.com?

You can use any site, but I use this site to check my download speed.

http://web.tampabay.rr.com/giis/

The first number is the download speed (in bits) you probably heard when the company sold you your connection. Examples:

3Mbit
6 megabit
7000Kb
10000 kilobit

The second number is the download in kilobyetes. (KB)

For you, it will probably be something like 1005 k bytes per sec.

As for upload, I haven't ever looked into that, but you can try googling it.

Sounds like to me Chuck you have 1.5 down and a 256 up which is the standard DSL connection. Congrats baby.

Go to dslreports.com

You can check your speed vs other users in your area. And remember, even though your ADSL service may say 1.5 Mbps down and 256 kbps up, it is a best-service offering- meaning that the signal degrades over distance, and may be less than the capped speeds of 1.5 & 256

this are my dsl options....I'd like the 26.99 option, but I don't know if that it is much better/worse than my current cable line.

That's the beauty of it Dirge, I live all of 4 houses from my central office. Granted the lines may not be layed out that way but being that close can't hurt. My other helping factor, atleast to my thinking, is that since it's new in my town and most of the old people who live here aren't using dsl. So I'm one of the few people accessing the CO, which is way I was getting upto 1.2Mb/s downloads when I downloaded Source.

Figured I'd get some people with the WOW title, sorry Deadelus.
