Gotta Question about buying HL2 though Steam

I like the idea of it downloading the game to my PC and having it available instantly when it's released. I do have a question though. What happens when get a new PC or reformat my old one. Will I permanently loose the game and have to rebuy it? Will Steam ship out a copy of the game to my address along with the download? It would be nice to have it on disc just incase I moved to some place that doesn't have a good connection, but didn't think about that before I bought it. So now I'm left wondering what I got with my purchase. Anyone Know?

you can easily burn the hl2 steam content onto a dvd. And to answer your other question, no you do not have to buy it again. If you format, you just need to reinstall steam, put in your login information, and redownload the content. OR just copy it over from the dvd you made
