Geforce MX 440 64MB cards are ok for CS tho, especially free cards...

I know Kreaper runs an MX 440 and he does ok with it.

haha, all i can say is that an MX is better than nothing.
the mx 440 is perfectly suitable for cs, seeing as its not graphically intense (unless you use some crazy skins), the fraps arent that great in smoke, but its more than duable.

Since everyone is rippin on MY card, what cards do you guys have, or suggest having?

Wife has a Geforce3 ti200 64MB card in hers


My other computer has an Radeon 9200SE 128MB card. Can't do crap with this one. :)
I should have gotten a half-height Geforce4 MX440 instead.

I'd say these depending on your budget..

$150-$200ish Radeon 9600XT 128MB
$200-$250ish Radeon 9800PRO (XT?) 128MB/256MB

I definately wouldn't spend more than that unless you were buying one of the top of the line cards ($400-$600).

you can get a ATI9600pro (not that much diff between the pro and XT version of the 9600) for about $120 at newegg. I've been so tempted to get it myself, but I'm holding out for either x600xt to come out or x800pro to drop alot in price.

the 9600pro was the card I was going to buy. But since i'll be getting saints' mx440, I'll just wait until I really have to buy a better one. I can't even run through smoke nades with my current video card. Besides paying for shipping is alot better for me cause now i might be able to buy my ram!!! of course this all depends on what the wife says..lol

I still have to order my card, i guess i have the same question as to which card you guys recommend, I'm more curious which company you guys prefer though. (That being Nvidia and ATI).

There are lots of good cards out there, if you are heavy into the EA games then Nvidia cards are great, but IMHO since ATI cards were used by the valve team, and HL2 is going to be awesome, and CS source will be..../me drools.... then ATI holds the advantage, they will all be outdated in 2 yrs, but the 9600XT is tremendous bang for your buck right now. The XT is just better for DirectX9 games then the ATI Pro's
