I need to buy a digital camera or 35mm camera. I currently have a hp digital camera that sucks my wallet dry for batteries. I use it one time and I have to replace them. I know you can get cameras that have chargers and such nowadays, I'm just wondering if anyone has experience with one or can recommend a good one.

I have the Mavica that rocks...it's an older model, but the thing takes pretty good pics anyway.

I was looking at one of the Fuji cameras a while back that was about $700...but, money has been kinda tight and that fell through.

I have a Sony DSC-P10 and it r0x0rs. It a 5 megapixel camera and takes GREAT low light shots and such. It also takes really good 640x480 mpegs with audio. I have a really cool one of the water cannon show in front of the Bellagio Casino that I would post, but it's 19.2 MB...

I'm on a budget here guys $700 is about 400-500 too much.

lol...I was just giving an example! ;-) Have you tried Ritz Camera or even the Wal-Mart camera section? I mean, go there and look at them and get a feel for the weight etc...
The Ritz Camera people are usually very helpful.

I have the same camera, it' pretty nice, but most of the time I never use the 5mp, the files are too huge.
The only other setback is that stupid proprietary Memory Stick.

Another great place to shop for cameras is National Camera Exchange. I don't know if they have any near you Sabre, but the sales people are really helpful. They also sell some nice used cameras if money is an issue.

Also, something you might want to do, is get a magazine that goes over digital cameras best buys etc and fine the best one you can get within your budget.

Ok nm about National Camera Exchange. Apparently they are only in MN. Sorry.

This is the camera I want (http://www.ritzcamera.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&productId=13076301&topCategory=1003&cat1=1009), but will never, ever be able to afford.

I would suggest a Nikon F3 35mm or a Canon AE-1 (No longer made) if you can find one - there's a HUGE selection of lenses available for those two cameras - I have the Canon AE-1 - I've had it since 7th grade - before I got into computers I was a HUGE shutterbug - I was always taking pictures - or slides actually - have about 9000 slides I took over the years.

For now, I'd stick w/ a good 35mm SLR for "real" photography and a digital for "Point 'n Shoot" snapshots - UNLESS you can afford the new Canon Digital Rebel - accepts all the Rebel lenses and I think it's 6 or 7 megapixels - but also about 3 grand :(

I wouldn't choose a Rebel line for a 35mm as I frown upon such things as Autofocus, and auto-exposure and photography modes and all the junk they put on those cameras...I'm waiting on an all manual digital camera, where I can tell it what iso speed film to emulate, and can adjust my exposures accordingly.

Actually I was wrong the 6.8 megapixel Digital rebel has gone down to about a grand! Time for me to start saving :)

anyway - here's the one I really want http://www.ritzcamera.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&productId=13069786&catTemplate=13001422&cmCat=SEARCH

11.1 megapixel baby :)

I have the Canon Powershot A70 as well, good camera. I would also suggest getting this:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000630MQ/103-0499762-5075035?%5Fencoding=UTF8

Its saved me alot of money, and the charge lasts a good long time. Its paid for itself already.

I recently bought a Kodak DX6340 from Newegg.com and I love it. extreamly simple to use and produces some great pics.

The Canon a70 is also a great camera. along with the Fuji A340 and F700.

The best battery charger on the market is the Maha rapid charge. you can look around the web for some reviews if you want. it comes with 2200 mAH powerX batteries that are also rated and tested to be some of the best availible. I have the maha charger and it came with 8 batteries. These batteries last about 2x as long as energizerM3 batteries. and they fully charge up in about an hour. also, the charger doesn't leave a "battery memory" or charge memory, so you get maximum capacity every time. like I said, check out some of the reviews and test. you can get them pretty cheap on Ebay:

This is the kind of feedback I was looking for. You never know if the customer comments on those webpages are from real customers or from the camera company. some of those feedbacks are almost too good...lol

thanks guys, I like the Canon A70 so far.

Plus with a child, I can take 50 pics, store them on disc or HD, upload them to a place like Target.com's Kodak image center, and have them print any one that I want printed for like $.23 a piece, then go pick them up when they are ready.
But with a child the preview of the image is a must....how much film would I have wasted on bad shots w/o my digital???

I have a canon sd10, same with my friend who uses it for his art (www.illwaukee.com) its SUPER compact which makes it easy to use for snapshots. It is sorta pricy when it comes to the features when compared to other cameras but not that bad, the sd110 has almost exactly the same abilities but is just a bit bigger and a bit cheaper. The Canon camera's have a much more realistic colors compared to other brands, Ive tested Sony's, Kodak's, some Olympus cameras, and Ive found Canon cameras to be the best usually.

that is the defense I have with my wife Mike. I originally intended to print out my own pictures (bought an hp photosmart printer) but it seems like I never get around to printing them. :(

I may have to try that Target thing out. .23 sounds expensive for one picture though.

I have a Fuji Finepix 2400 Zoom. It's a 2.1 megapixel, 3x optical zoom fairly small camera. I think it's around 2 years old now. For Mardi Gras I took a picture of each float, band, etc. over 3 parades and I didn't run out of space on my card and most of the pictures look great. The only ones that look crappy are the ones I must have been shaking when taking them and some of the night ones are a little blurry, I'm guessing was due to float lighting.

I found a color laser printer for $300 after rebates (had to send someone to MS - Dragonlady country- to get it for me) and it prints the pictures perfectly for me.

Canon S410 review (http://www.futurelooks.com/display.php?i=251&p=1) just poped up. I don't know anything about the camera, but the reviewer seems impressed.

Al, it works out, it is normally I think about $6 for a roll of 25.
so it is caparable, especially for the convienence.
Now Walmart has the printing cheaper, but they charge you $10/yr for hosting
Target is free for 500 pictures, and I have one real close to my house ;)
plus you can have mousepads, t-shirts, and other pic sizes made.

Canon's are a sham! They have nothing at all to do with using ammunition! I demand truth in advertising!

omg I had no idea that they made digital cameras w/o rechargable

they sorta do- here's my suggestion- buy rechargable batteries and a battery charger- it's lil bit to buy- but worth it if you use batteries alot.

And when ALL else fails- EBAY BABY :hb
