got me a new machine,
specs:
AMD64 3400+
Gigabit nforce3 motherboard
1gig of Corsair pc3200 ram
120gig SATA Seagate 8mg cache HD
Geforce FX 5950ultra
Audigy2 6.1 soundcard

now to the problem, when i install games, about half way though it will tell me either i dont have sufficient disk space or not high enough permissions on the computer to install the software. Now it will finish the installation, and the games will play, but the games will crash back out to the desk top after about 10minutes. Any ideas?

I have tried reinstalled windowsxp twice now, plus gotten all the updates. I have tried 3 different nvidia drivers.

any and all comments or suggestions appreciated

well narrowed it down to two things, ram and video card...going to try a different card in the computer later today and see if it works...if so, time to return new card and get a replacement...

I use Transgaming's WineX for CS - seems they are working on support for SWG, so give it time.

Steam/CS works flawlessly - can't tell the difference from Windows...
Only other game I really play is UT2k4, and it's native to linux, so no problems there.

To answer your original question - I would guess like toby said, a bad stick of ram or some other hardware issue - how are your temps?

temps are fine...it is the video card that is causing the problems
