I'm Vidcard shopping for a new machine I'm trying to have up and running by Arma2.

My upper price limit is about $190, and I'm considering:

Radeon 9600XT - 256mb Ram:

And the Nvidia GeForce FX5600 or 5700:
I really like the Asus model V9570/TD (Fx5700 chipset)

This one has a faster Ram speed, and one crappy review, but the reviewer sounds like a complete moron, seeing as I have Never seena videocard that installs where you can see the componets of the card--so I count that review as an idiot.

These are the chipsets I am considereing -- if anyone has something similar int he $150-190 range lemme know...thanks.

The 9600XT is a good card. The 256 megs of ram will not make any difference over the 128 meg cards. Also, most 9600XT's come with a certificate for a free copy of HL2 when its released.

Really? Is it a system thing that's the reason more ram on the GPU isn't nescessary?

It's just that there aren't any games out there yet (or for some time) that will need (or even use) 256MB of local texture memory...

Anyway - I second the vote on the 9600XT for that price point - just save yourself a little bit of dough and get the 128 meg version of it.

I have the 9600XT and it rocks man, and if you get that card you get a coupon for HL2. So $40 of the card price is just an advance on a game we will make you get anyway.
