my friend has a problem with his steam it says "Error: Cannot connect to Steam network" cant find any information on how to fix this... so if anyone can help it would be appreciated

Make sure that his computer is connected directly to his cable/dsl modem. (DO NOT have it running through a router)

Close out of Steam then go to c:\program files\steam\ and delete clientregistry.blob and restart steam.

That should correct most things. If it works after that, try running it back through the router (if he has one) and if it stops working then he may need to open ports on the router as described here.

Do you have a router? Did you try bypassing the router? Did it work when you bypassed the router?

well he doesnt have a router, hes got some internal firewall he can turn on and of from what it seems and i dont know anything about ports so i dont know what to tell him there..

and another new problem of mine, i reinstalled counterstrike and steam and everything and it tells me my cd key is bad

Tell him to disable his firewall and then close out of Steam then go to c:\program files\steam\ and delete clientregistry.blob and restart steam.

MAKE SURE the firewall is disabled.

You shouldn't need to re enter your cd key. When you go to install steam, tell it that you would like to use an existing account and then you will need to enter the email address and password you specified when you first setup steam.
